FAQs

Questions we are asked most.

If yours is not here, ask it — we would rather answer than have you guess.

Do I need to visit an office?

No. Every part of a matter is handled by phone, video and secure document exchange. If a matter genuinely requires an original signature in front of a witness or a physical inspection, we tell you at the outset and arrange it.

How quickly will you reply?

Within one working day of first contact. If your matter has a deadline inside that window, say so in the message and it will be treated as urgent.

What information should I bring to the consultation?

Anything you already have — letters, emails, contracts, photographs, court papers. We send a checklist beforehand for most matters, which is more reliable than guessing.

How are fees agreed?

In writing, before work starts. Fixed fee where the scope is clear; hourly if you prefer, at the rate in your engagement letter. We will not go beyond an agreed estimate without asking you.

Are court fees included in your prices?

No. Court and tribunal fees are set by the court and passed through at cost. Anything beyond the price shown is quoted before the step is taken.

Are you authorised and regulated?

MM Law Solicitors Limited is authorised and regulated as an English and Welsh solicitors practice and holds professional indemnity insurance. Our full regulatory details are available on request.

Can you act for both sides of a dispute?

No. We act for one client in one matter. Where our interests would conflict we will tell you at the outset and decline if necessary.

Do you handle matters outside France?

Our practice covers England and Wales. We can often advise on the English legal position for matters elsewhere, but we cannot act on foreign law.

Will I get a written record of the advice?

Yes. After a consultation you receive a short written summary: the position, the recommended step, what it costs and the risks.

What happens if my matter cannot proceed?

We tell you as soon as we know. You are not committed to further cost once we have advised against proceeding, and any unused work is explained on the final invoice.

Need advice on your situation?
